December was a very busy and ‘Fun Filled’ month at QM.
It started with decorating the home when some of our Quarry Mount family lent a hand making and putting up seasonal decorations, including on our Christmas tree!
Our ‘Maureen’ was a dab hand too at helping wrap some presents for Christmas day, something she really loved doing, bringing back many fond memories for her!
CAROLS AND FLUTE
We very much enjoyed a visit from members of the local church. They told us some interesting stories and finished off their visit with us joining them in singing Christmas carols, whilst one of the visitors played the flute.
Throughout this special month we continued to have fun with some of our regular favourites. This included … board games, chair exercise and also a very enjoyable sensory therapy session amongst which was listening to and guessing what sounds could be heard!
Our very popular ukulele band ‘Ukebox Jury’ also came to entertain us wearing their seasonal hats. Once again we really enjoyed having a good old sing-along especially with Christmas songs, getting us in a very festive mood!
Many of us took part in some festive arts and crafts, making some seasonal Christmas cards. We then kept the theme running with all our regular activities to include any mention of Christmas, which added to the enjoyment and built on the excitement that the month of December brings!
CHRISTMAS LUNCH OUT
A few of us enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch out … with a tipple of course! We went to ‘The Crown Inn’ at Stratton … had the full works, with crackers and plenty of jokes and laughter going around the table … a lot of reminiscing too!
Our two delightful volunteers, Amie and Tasha, visited us from the local college on a work placement. They spent the day with us doing some arts & crafts and then we had great fun together playing bingo.
Once again (as last year) we all really enjoyed a visit from the commonweal school choir. As before, they really were great and we all loved them! We really hope they will come back to visit us again at Easter!
Also as part of our December entertainment we decided to try out a new entertainer ‘Steve Chudley’. Well, what can we say? He was absolutely brilliant! He had a great range of Christmas songs including many of the old favourites and some new ones, where the words came up on a tv screen for us to read.
Our very own talented ‘Bob’ took to the microphone a few times and ‘Aileen’ of course couldn’t resist having a dance and a jiggle. It was all such a lot of fun, as we did not only have a good sing-along we also had a good laugh when the afternoon ended with a string of jokes.
For our Christmas show this year we had the very popular ‘Bob Charles’ doing his special seasonal performance. This went down really well with everyone as always, with a special visit from Santa our very own ‘Raven’, who did a really great job!
On Christmas day Santa (Raven) and his helper (Louise) delivered some special parcels. This was followed by some fun and games and a delicious Christmas lunch and afternoon tea … we all had a really enjoyable day!
We also enjoyed our own staff Christmas carol service with many of us joining in singing along.
We continued with the festive spirit in the air with more entertainment from our long term, ‘Ever Popular’ ‘Rob Dee’, who came along with Santa and his little dog ‘Mince Pie’.
To finish off our celebrations some of the residents enjoyed a little tipple and a good sing-a-long including “Auld Lang Syne” to mark the end 2015.
